Could We Become A Dystopian Society?

artificial intelligence, The Matrix, science fiction

Remember the 1999 science fiction film, The Matrix? This movie depicted a dystopian future in which reality, as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality.

As we witness the advancement of artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality technology is becoming increasingly popular. Could the simulated reality we saw depicted in The Matrix be our current reality? Is it possible, however, to see our society eventually lose our language and ability to clearly communicate, in which our human population is subdued by sentient machines? Is it possible to see a human rebellion against the innovative computerized machines we created? Perhaps we will have to wait and see just how far our technological advancements will positively or negatively affect our human cognitive responses.
